RESEARCH INTEGRITY: THE ROLE OF MENTORS, EDITORS AND FUNDERS

Currently, Brazil is facing political and economic hurdles that have posed additional challenges for its educational, scientific and technological systems. Funding for research and development is among these. However, despite these challenges, some priorities that continue to guide Brazil’s scientific endeavours and science policy include fostering a culture of research ethics and integrity at the country’s universities and research centers.

The Brazilian Meeting on Research Integrity, Science and Publication Ethics (BRISPE) has stimulated Brazilian institutions to address research integrity since 2010, (http://www.iibrispe.coppe.ufrj.br/index.php/i-brispe). With increasing engagement of Brazilian mentors, editors and funders, the BRISPE (www.iibrispe.coppe.ufrj.br) has helped to foster a culture of research ethics and integrity in Brazil (http://revistapesquisa.fapesp.br/2014/09/16/compromisso-acao/), and the meeting is now in its fourth edition. The IV BRISPE will be held on November 17-18, 2016, at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) and aims to strengthen the role Brazil has played locally and also globally in conversations about the responsible conduct of research. These conversations have increasingly been framed by issues related to science and society, public trust in research results, debates over the reliability of the research record, and over gradual changes in the communication and reward systems of science. The IV BRISPE thus invites the participation of researchers, university students, editors, funders, educators, policymakers, and all of those interested in the research enterprise. The theme of this fourth edition of the meeting is "Research Integrity: The Role of Mentors, Editors and Funders". [Portuguese Version]
