Rationale
The Brazilian Meeting on Malaria Research is a well-established discussion forum, which has provided, over the past 25 years, opportunities for scientific collaboration between Brazilian and foreign investigators from different areas whose main research topic is human malaria. In 2015,
the XIV Brazilian Meeting on Malaria Research will return to Sao Paulo city, home of the second event of its kind. The event will be held from 1-3 October at the Rebouças Convention Center.
The XIV Brazilian Meeting on Malaria Research has the scientific basis for malaria elimination as its major theme. The meeting will explore various issues related to human and experimental malaria, including new approaches and challenges in disease control, immunological and molecular factors underlying malaria pathogenesis and new advances in the diagnosis and treatment in the post-genomic era.
The XIV Brazilian Meeting on Malaria Research will bring together approximately 500 participants ranging from basic researchers to epidemiologists and clinicians, as well as policy-makers and a large number of students at different stages of training. This meeting aims to provide a wide interaction between researchers and policy-makers, contributing to the establishment of public policies for the improvement of malaria diagnosis, treatment and control. The main focus is the Amazon region, where nearly 200 thousand cases of the disease are recorded each year.
